Over the last few years, Bristol Ageing Better has become a well-known brand in the city, developing strong connections with older people, communities, organisations and decision makers. We have been able to fund other organisations to deliver over 60 different contracts that have supported over 13,000 participants. But for all of the outputs, attention and learning around BAB, the important thing has always been that Bristol Ageing Better is a partnership of organisations who have come together with a joint mission of tackling isolation and loneliness. BAB was designed to support its members and to celebrate their work. We didn’t create a new charity for this work, but created a partnership that supports partners to contribute to the mission and encourages people to share and collaborate. I encourage you to complete our partnership survey here that helps us to make sure that we are working to support you. As lead partner Age UK Bristol has both hosted myself and the team while also championing our approach of co-designing and co-producing the programme with older people and partners.
Where possible, we have funded other partners to deliver service for isolated and lonely older people. While this makes us “the commissioner” I prefer to think of us as collaborators. I have been personally involved in developing the concepts for our projects and over the last 3 years the BAB team have been actively involved in developing and delivering activities to the isolated and lonely older people that we serve. I’m not one to step away and I watch with interest as each of our projects growths and (hopefully !) flourishes in the city. We are already working with some partners around their sustainability and will be contacting all existing delivery partners over the next few months to see how we may help. Our recent partnership meeting really showed me how important it is to keep this partnership going and many of you have told me how valuable it is to have the opportunity to meet other partners in the city and share what you are doing.
As we enter our last year we will continue to find opportunities to bring people together, whether it is around training , learning or simply celebrating what we do!
