We’ve done a lot of testing. Now it’s time to Learn
It is fantastic for me to see BAB projects running across the city, and I enjoy finding out where the ideas for the project came from and how that has been translated into reality. The Bristol Ageing Better application to the Big Lottery Fund had 16 project ideas that were inspiring and exciting, but taking them from the page into the community was a challenge for us. It is only natural that a project evolves and develops when it starts delivering and we have tried to support our delivery partners to be able to do that.
In addition to the evaluations done by our Community Researchers and Evaluation team at UWE to show the impact that our work is making to isolated and lonely of older people in Bristol, we are also trying to capture the stories, experiences and learning that every project naturally has.
Our Learning and Evidence Officer, Tom has been with us nearly 8 weeks now and he has definitely hit the ground running on these issues. This week he hosted 2 network meetings with partners delivering our Community Navigator and Community Development for Older People projects. These meetings allowed us to update them on BAB news and development but also to start a conversation about the learning that is already appearing.
As the project develops, we hope that these Delivery Partner networks will encourage people to share things that went both right and wrong.
Tom will be collating learning from these meetings as well as from conversations from all partners in order to provide learning reports that share good practice and address common obstacles. As part of our City for All Ages week, we will be hosting a learning network on 20th June that will focus on intergenerational work. We will be showcase some work from our Learning for Life Together project as well as other examples of intergenerational work in the city. We are keen to encourage open and honest conversation about how to make a project successful. There are a number of other activities going on during this week and you can find more about them here.
