We are coming to the end of our second year of Bristol Ageing Better and reminding ourselves to take a breath before we burst forth into year 3. Our second year saw a lot of projects go from paper-based ideas into real life projects that were developed and delivered through some of delivery partners. During this year our partnership list exceeded 250 organisations and we have spent nearly £100,000 on goods and services for 59 groups delivering Community Kick-Start activities. These groups are delivering big results from relatively small funds, and we are pleased to see some of these small ideas already developing into interesting and exciting community projects.

I am very proud of my team and all of our partners, who have put so much into making BAB grow and flourish. 2016/17 saw delivery begin on CPCE, GP Case Finding and First Contact Checklist as well as:

Over 1,100 older people have participated in BAB activities in year 2 and we expect this figure to continue to increase over the coming three years. Bristol Ageing Better has become a recognisable “brand” in the city, but we don’t deliver anything on our own. 23 organisations have contracts with us with a further 11 starting on 1st April and potentially another 14 being signed during year 3. In addition, organisations work with us on partnership meetings, Public Understanding and communications project as well things like Celebrating Age Festival.

BAB’s third year promises to keep us on our toes with a huge amount of project delivery across the majority of our projects. We will soon be releasing more information about some partnership activities, including a Loneliness Summit in partnership with Age UK Bristol, a week of activities to celebrate Bristol being a city for ALL ages and hopefully some more storytelling events! We are also very aware that we are coming to the midpoint of the programme, so as well as celebrating this, we are also starting to think about making projects sustainable after 2020 and the legacy that BAB leaves on Bristol.

Thank you for being a part of BAB’s journey and I look forward to working with you more over the next 3 years.

Best wishes,

Adam Rees
