'Clay Explorations' with Trinity Centre

About the project

‘Clay Explorations’ was a new activity supported by BAB and offered at the Trinity Centre as part of their Conservation Activity Programme 2017-2018. They engaged with older people living in Easton, Ashley and Lawrence Hill as well as those who lived a bit beyond but had a connection with Trinity.

The activity delivered was a variety of taster sessions at the Trinity Centre, including the clay workshop.

Project feedback

“English is not my mother language, so I wanted to prove myself doing a course, because I was so scared to do anything in that moment. It was lovely to meet the people there, we still in touch and they help me to find some other crafts activities. I’m feel glad to have met all of them. Also I prove myself doing something that I always wanted to do but I never felt brave. It was a great experience and I will encourage everyone to try. Also Joanna, the teacher is a really patient and good vibration. I would like to do some more workshops with her and also try glass and wood carving. I’m just so happy. I have learned about myself and how much I like to do arts, especially the clay.”

Learning

“Through the delivery of this activity we have been able to confirm our knowledge, that activity based workshops delivered over a significant period are effective and offer opportunities for older people to share their experiences.”

We had spaces fully booked in advance for the first block of workshops but then people did not attend. We changed the way people booked their spaces for the second block and requested a £10 deposit – refundable at the end of the workshops. This system worked better and we will implement it going forward.”
