Who We Are
BAB is a partnership of individuals and organisations working together to reduce isolation and loneliness among older people in Bristol.
The Bristol & Avon Chinese Women’s Group (BACWG), with funding from Bristol Ageing Better, has organised an exciting activity for our local BME communities; particularly the Chinese community!
BACWG's Multicultural Cookery Class is being held every other Wednesday from August 2016 to July 2017, from 11:30am to 1:30pm at The Vassall Centre, Gill Avenue, Fishponds, Bristol, BS16 2QQ (SUBJECT TO CHANGE).
For this class, the group invites people from different communities to lead each session with a recipe from their respective cultures. Participants can sit with each other to discuss their personal histories and the cultural significance of the foods they are sharing in.
By regularly attending these activities, the participants are able to enjoy a good meal as well as meeting with friends old and new which can help to break down cultural barriers and alleviate social isolation.
One of the participants commented: "I am not particularly a fan of food, but I extremely enjoy chatting with other participants and sharing our backgrounds and stories so I become a regular attendee now, and feel less lonely and isolated. Also, I was encouraged by other participants and BACWG’s staff to deliver a session."
