BAB Learning Event: Food and Loneliness

Location: Watershed 1 Canon's Road Bristol BS1 5TX
Time: 09.30 - 13.30

What has the Bristol Ageing Better programme learnt about the role of food in reducing the loneliness and isolation of older people?

Join us to hear what we have learnt from our three food projects and our recommendations for others interested in using food in a similar way. How does this learning affect you? What implications does it have for the wider sector?

The event will include:

  • University of the West of England (UWE) presenting the key findings from their evaluation of two of the BAB food projects, including their recommendations for the future.

  • Bristol Meets The World sharing their learning about the connection between food, cultural identity and loneliness. How can food be used as a way to break down cultural barriers and form connections between older people? Bristol Meets The World is a project delivered and led by Bristol & Avon Chinese Women's Group (BACWG) alongside its partners: 91 Ways to Build a Global City, Anchor Hanover, Brunelcare, The Care Forum and Pakistani Welfare Organisation.

  • Your Food, Your Health sharing their learning about the role of food in developing relationships between older people living in sheltered accommodation and how food can be used to create links with the surrounding local community. Your Food, Your Health is a project delivered by Wellspring Healthy Living Centre in partnership with Buzz Lockleaze and BS3 Community.

  • Talking Tables sharing their learning about how the act of cooking and eating together can help to form connections and reduce lonelinessamong those aged 50+. Talking Tables is a project led by LinkAge Network alongside Lawrence Weston Community Farm, St Werburghs City Farm and Windmill Hill City Farm.
