What can you do to help Bristol become an Age Friendly City?

We want to hear from you! BAB is gathering together projects that encourage active ageing, and enhance the quality of life as people age. If you're involved with a project that focuses on these goals, we want to know. Our aim is to submit an action plan listing these programmes to the World Health Organisation. It will form part of an application for Bristol to become part of the Age Friendly global network and gain Age Friendly City status.

There are many things which contribute to loneliness and isolation in older people. These include poor transport, deprived neighbourhoods, fear of crime, lack of community cohesion, lack of care and support and inadequate provision of cultural activities for older people. The WHO has developed a framework for tackling such issues and cities around the UK are working within it to improve older age for their residents.

Leading on from this, BAB launched the Charter for an Age Friendly Bristol in June. This charter sets up 9 visions for Bristol, and cements the city’s commitment to be part of the World Health Organisation (WHO)’s Global Network of Age Friendly Communities. Both Bristol Ageing Better and Bristol City Council are committed to meeting the standards set out by the WHO and are working together to achieve it.

So how you can get involved? Below are two different ways:

Click here to fill in our offer form and let us know about an idea you have which could help Bristol become an Age Friendly City. We are interested in developing action groups of individuals who want to achieve the same goal.
