As we near the end of the third year of BAB, we are working hard to look at both the legacy of the programme itself and the sustainability of those projects that reduce or prevent isolation and loneliness of older people in Bristol.
Over the last few years, we have been working closely with six leading charitable trusts in Bristol and we have decided to come together to support organisations working with older people who are struggling because of cuts to traditional sources of funding.
This Bristol Older People’s Funding Alliance is chaired by the Dean of Bristol, Dr David Hoyle and is made up of Bristol Ageing Better, the Quartet Community Foundation, The St Monica Trust, The Anchor Society, John James Bristol Foundation, The Dolphin Society and the Society of Merchant Venturers.
Today we are launching the Transformation Fund, with the aim of giving organisations supporting older people in Bristol an opportunity to change and adapt to meet the challenges posed by budget cuts. Organisations can apply for Transformation grants of up to £15,000 to improve existing services, develop innovations that will have a positive effect on the quality of life for older people, or to make their service models more sustainable.
The type of projects that can be supported by the fund, include setting up social enterprises, gaining skills to enhance fundraising activities, setting up mergers and using technology to improve their efficiency and reach.
Each partner in the alliance will hold their own funds and successful organisations will receive funding directly from at least one of the charitable trusts. The trusts are keen to develop ongoing relationships with those successful organisations and where possible, will be keen to share their expertise both in terms of running successful ventures and providing services for older people.
Bristol Ageing Better will be managing the transformation fund and you can find out more about it here.
All organisations are asked to complete an Expression of Interest form and submit it before the deadline of Thursday 22nd February 2018. Successful organisations which meet the fund’s criteria will then be shortlisted and invited to complete a full application for funding.
