We are launching a new age-friendly toolkit to support local businesses to reach older people in the city.
Bianca Rossetti, Editor of the toolkit and Project Officer at BAB said, “We want to encourage businesses to be more proactive and meet the needs of older people in the city. This is a win-win scenario where local businesses are able to reach new customers and older people feel more valued and respected in the city.”
Bristol recently joined the World Health Organisation's Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities, recognising the good example our city sets when it comes to meeting the needs of people of all ages. Bristol Ageing Better has been working since 2015 to ensure that this age-friendliness continues to improve, in partnership with Age UK Bristol, Bristol City Council as well as the voluntary sector and local businesses.
An age-friendly city is better for people and better for the local economy, so an understanding of the key principles of age-friendliness can be of huge benefit to business owners. Over 65s spend £1 of every £5 spent in the UK, and as this number is only set to increase, it is crucial to businesses’ success that they reach the older market.
The toolkit is a free comprehensive guide for businesses that want to improve what they can offer older people. This informal event is for anyone representing a business that is working towards becoming more accessible, inclusive, and community-focused.
BAB Head of Programme, Carly Urbanski said, “We’re really excited for the launch of our business toolkits – this is just the first age-friendly toolkit in a series that we will be creating to help businesses, individuals, communities and the third sector to become more age-friendly and inclusive. It has been fantastic to interview local businesses and hear what they have already been doing to support their communities.”
The event will take place at The Station on Silver Street on Wednesday 15th May from 5-7pm. Free tickets are available here: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/age-friendly-business-guide-launch-event-tickets-59954304940
