We are very pleased to welcome our new admin volunteer Essi. Essi will be supporting the BAB Programme Management Team and the fabulous Babbers presenters with day to day tasks once a week. Here is short message from her:
I have just started volunteering in the Bristol Ageing Better team. So far my tasks have included working on Babbers What’s On, gathering information about different events going on Bristol. The information is then presented on the Babbers Radio Show. The Babbers Show discusses different topics that matter to older people in Bristol. It has been interesting to learn about the wide range of events that are organised in Bristol for older people.
I originally come from Finland but have been living in the UK since 2012. I graduated from Glasgow University last summer, and have recently moved to Bristol to study MSc Ethnicity and Multiculturalism at Bristol University. Academically I am interested in learning more about intersections of age and ethnicity. My undergraduate dissertation focused on multiculturalism, citizenship and childhood. However, I am also interested in learning more about intersections of ethnicity and later life. I hope I will have an opportunity to learn more about this topic while volunteering with the Bristol Ageing Better team.
My previous work experience includes teaching Finnish and English, as well as undertaking an internship at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. In addition, I have had the opportunity to volunteer with a range of different organisations, including The Scottish Fair Trade Forum and Glasgow Women’s Library.
In my spare time I try to hit the gym or go for a run at least once or twice a week! I am also trying to learn coding and the secrets of HTML and CSS. I love to travel – my next destination is most likely going to be Italy!
