We are pleased to welcome Tom George to the Bristol Ageing Better Programme Management Team. Tom will be supporting the gathering of learning and evidence from the BAB programme and creating opportunities to share this learning through the BAB partnership. He will be working closely with the Programme Management Team and BAB partners to support evidence and evaluation in individual BAB projects and the programme more generally. Tom has written the following message to introduce himself:
I grew up in Bristol and am thrilled to now have this opportunity to learn more about what this city has to offer older people. My role is Learning & Evidence Officer and I will be involved in capturing and sharing learning and evidence from across the BAB programme whilst working with partners to maximise evaluation outputs.
Prior to this role, I studied Sociology at the University of Warwick before returning to the city a few years ago to study for a master’s degree in Social Science Research Methods at the University of Bristol. Since then I have conducted social research and evaluation projects in a range of different contexts including academia, the public sector and the third sector. I am experienced at evaluating community projects and am particularly passionate about designing creative and participatory approaches to evaluation that are empowering and add value to the intended outcomes of the project.
In my previous post, I worked in a collaborative role with Public Health and the NHS Clinical Commissioning Group in South Gloucestershire, funded by the Avon Primary Care Research Collaborative. My work involved promoting a culture of evidence-informed commissioning by advising, designing and conducting robust evaluations, making recommendations for future service delivery models and generating evidence to inform the development of policy and strategy across health and social care.
When I’m not working I am a keen amateur baker and I like making sourdough bread for my family and friends. I am also the Treasurer and volunteer for a small social-enterprise catering organisation called Ale&Cake, and I really enjoy preparing food on a big scale for community events.
I am really happy to have joined the BAB team and am looking forward to working across the partnership to share the lessons learnt from such an exciting programme.
