Intergenerational Storytelling - Ruth's Story
Part of Bristol: A City for All Ages Week events

Bristol: A City for All Ages week in June saw a wide range of activities celebrating intergenerational projects, and highlighting new ways in which local organisations can promote interaction between generations.

Bristol Ageing Better held its second Storytelling Night, welcoming inspiring stories from local older people about friends and family members from a different generation that have inspired them. On the night, we had four storytellers, whose stories talked of different places and times of their lives, capturing the audience with their honesty and openness. Their stories range from recollections from their early lives in foreign landscapes, to current projects and people who inspire them daily, all featuring their own tone and individuality.

The first story we will be sharing is Ruth’s. Her story talks about friendship with an older woman who she met by chance while travelling, who ultimately would impact her life deeply. Ruth was able to capture the audience with her recollection of her relationship with this mysterious woman, and how learning about her life made her consider her own.

We will be publishing the rest of the stories shortly. If you are not signed up to our regular updates yet, please do, to make sure you don’t miss these publications.

The event took place at Salt Café, in Hotwells, which was the perfect setting for an intimate session of storytelling, with its friendly atmosphere and delicious hot drinks. We would like to thank Salt Café for hosting our event and contributing to the success of our event.

We would also like to thank our fabulous storytellers who, not only delighted the audience on the night, but also allowed us to show their stories with the wider Bristol Ageing Better partnership.
