Who We Are
BAB is a partnership of individuals and organisations working together to reduce isolation and loneliness among older people in Bristol.
This project was run by All-Aboard Watersports!
What was the project?
Come On Board aimed to ‘break down barriers; making water sports accessible for all’ and provide free activities and transport for people over the age of 50.
What did the project do?
Come On Board offered free activities, and free transport to and from the activities, across the city of Bristol for anyone over 50 years of age. Come On Board provided a variety of activities such as: Zumba, kayaking, gig rowing, community gardening, walking cricket, power boat sailing sessions and more
All activities were held in in small groups, of between 6 and 10 people and offered support for those with access needs.

Why did BAB fund it?
BAB wanted to commission a project, which encouraged physical activity and was accessible to older people, for this reason, transport is provided and the activities are free.
This project worked with six partners across the city to deliver a variety of free sessions with a total of 629 participants.
Overall, feedback from participants was positive and helped shape the activities on offer. Other BAB projects working directly with older people were able to refer into this project with ease and the activities on offer were particularly beneficial to the Community Navigators working with people to overcome barriers to getting out, of which transport and cost are huge factors. Due to its popularity, BAB extended the project to enable them to apply for continuation funding.
Extension plans are currently on hold due to Covid-19 and hope to revisit plans when appropriate.
